Despite it being the 4th of July, a couple of hours ago at least, I ended up finishing up the profile graphic I originally wanted to do using my new KaiJou fanart instead of doing an America tribute. /shot And because of that, I was rather adamant on finishing it before I sleep. By the help of whatever divine power, I actually managed to do it! Most of the day was wasted trying to turn my drawing into a header -.-;;. I couldn't find a design which was subtle yet effective enough. Especially since I'm more used to doing crazily elaborate designs, 'simple' ones end up driving me up the wall. I think I went through 5 full designs (inclusive of text area design) before I settled on this OTL. It's plain, the header is painfully plain actually, but meh, my excuse is that I don't want the design to overwhelm the art. :D And besides, who doesn't like dandelions and star specks?
Another problematic area was selecting colours to use (man, where did my colour sense go!) D:. Since both yellow and blue were present, I was tempted to go full blue; number one, it's my favourite colour to work with for graphics and number two, I can't work with yellow. Period. Plain blue looked too boring so I ended up using pale yellow in the background items etc instead. Which worked fine since some of them look more white-ish anyway. Unlikely pure white, yellow gives the graphics a warmer tint, which fits well with the image :D.
I'd originally wanted the name of this journal to be more... Prominent; in place of the 'Mystickal's...art'. The issue I had with that was throwing too many colours in the header (since I insist on using red and blue), so I ended up just placing it outside the image. Which is kinda a good thing since it won't be lost in the sea of colours of my drawing. xD The text area was a ton of fun to do reason being I can freestyle the whole thing! :D Didn't want a boring border (my borders are NEVER boring D<) so I threw in some swirls and voilà! I'm done! The background is basically littered with dandelions and star specks too, with very light scan lines thrown in to make the text stand out more. It's simple, but hey, I was tired and coding was still undone!
Coding. asdefegewadsafijok!!! I will never code late at night again. It'll probably give me a heart attack -.-;;. Since the html tags LJ allows are different from say Neopets, Gaia or even my website, I had to modify the code over and over again before it could work properly. I had to scrap the Neopets version, my usual html website layout version and even parts of my Gaia version before I could get it working T_T. Next time, I'll read what tags are allowed before I start coding. That would have saved me a ton of time. At least I managed to get it working, and it looks rather decent, so I'm happy! :D Will tweak some portions of the code tomorrow, update the links and text. It's about time I changed the info there, and I've already saved (LOL) it so I'm ready for a change!
Until then, I need sleep. @_@ I ought to get my sleeping hours back to 'normal' soon...
