I guess this qualifies as post-Minnacon huh? If you're hoping I'm going to give you an insider's rundown on what happen, I'm afraid I've to quell the excitement since I didn't go for it. Several reasons: The haze when I woke was a massive 390, and even in the house I'm wheezing my lungs out; I had terrible insomnia the night before, only managing to sleep at 5.30am, and yes you read that right; my dad had to go to the office for a conference call so if I wanted to go, I need to take a bus (yes I'm that lazy). So taking the advice of my folks, I curled back in bed and snuggled into the warmth of my sheets :D. On top of that, my dad decided to surprise me with a toasted roast chicken and spinach sandwich with Brazilian coffee on the side (what's the occasion? I honestly don't know ._.)~ Well, not gonna complain! Quite a decent trade-off really! (Although a part of me is still a tad regretful that I didn't get to see the anthology in person, or grab goodies...)

So I mentioned in the previous post that I wanted to spruce up the profile of my writing LJ, and surprisingly, I did manage to conjure something simple up! :D Unlike the process for this LJ's graphic, I didn't feel like doing up a piece specially for it (since my writings span a myriad of topics, encompass a variety of styles, and differ in tone and formality), nor was I particularly inspired, so I decided to use my Twin Whites piece as a base for my design. Despite loving the colouring on Jack a lot more, I ended up going with a standalone Gil to allow more space for the text box, and since he looked a little more natural than the former anyway ;_;.

(Great, I didn't realise the untranslated circle shapes when I transferred the completed coding from my Vaio to my Air... Just click here to see it live instead -.-.)

Doesn't look that lame right! Not bad for something created from an uninspired mind! When I removed Jack from the original image, I realised I'd already erased the lineart for the branches. So I spent a while touching up on the shading after adding and subtracting some branches to make the entire thing look a little more cohesive as a single item. Hopefully the touched up portions don't stand out too much from the original! (I'm a genius for not saving the colour palettes I used... Or even if I did, I'm an even bigger genius for not remembering which colour set it was.) I casually remembered wanting to add in Gilbird in the original, but never got down to doing it, so why not just add it here instead since Gil is the main subject matter? :D I guess after years of not drawing creatures/animals, I can't even sketch a simple bird. -.- The lower opacity of certain branches are deliberate, as are the fully opaqued occasional ones that overlap the text box. Since the text I've chosen isn't really that much of an introduction (just didn't think it was necessary), and more of an imaginary conversation to a visitor as viewed from my side, I didn't think it'll be that big an issue. And 'sides, I like playing with layers and asymmetry, so why not? Finally, the text box does look a tad small, but that's not exactly a bad thing since it forces me to (for once) be a little more succinct. And I doubt most will bother reading it anyway since I like to pick small fonts for most of my graphics xD.

I ended up coding this yesterday (completed it in the wee hours of the morning of that same day, but couldn't resist the siren's call of my bed) on notepad, and since it's just basic manipulation of tables in html, didn't take too long in all. The problem started when I tried to import it into LJ's new coding system. With a new feature of "autocorrecting" your codes, it messed up some of my original coding, messing the entire thing up. What's even more annoying is the inclusion of "smart" html (more like opposite of "smart" html), that automatically translates basic text into rich text (especially with spacings and breaks), making adjustment of spaces between both lines of words and separate images/tables a huge pain in the behind. That's also why the text is so widely spread out (making the small text box even less utilitarian), and the two sides of the graphic are a couple of pixels out of sync with that in the middle. I tried using the transparent pixel trick to edit the positions of each piece, but even that was subjected to the automatic massive break inserted between itself and the image I wanted to move, worsening the situation. So after tinkering with it ineffectively for an hour or so, I got pissed off and gave up. At least it's not that unsightly, right? :/ I had to edit the same problem for the graphic on this LJ too, and ended up with the same problem. The thing that really gets to me is that the fault is not mine (since it works PERFECTLY on a normal browser, but not after being edited by LJ's excuse of a coding mechanism). If anyone can tell me how to rectify this pickle, I'd be really grateful! Disabling it is even better since I bloody well know I can code properly without any damn help. :D

Either way, at least I'm rather happy with how this turned out, even if LJ robbed me of perfect implementation.

On another note, I'm still wondering how I should go about posting the piece I did for the Hetalia anthology. Since it's still on sale, I shouldn't really devalue my own work by posting it for free on all platforms yet, but if I wish to expand on the universe, I do need it up as a linking bridge for the proper explanation and creation of the world I have in mind. /headdesks hard. I guess I should worry more about it after I've actually added the flesh and other embellishments on the skeleton of an outline that is still lying in the dusty corner of my desktop. But at the same time, I want to gauge the reaction on it before I continue with the idea. (That's not really a genuine excuse since those who know me well enough know I don't give a rat's behind about what other's think: I write solely as a narcissistic reflection.) Either way, I'll let the thought simmer for a while more before deciding if I should just post a snippet of it for now and the full piece later in the year, or just screw it and post the entire thing up (since the anthology isn't that pricey in the first place, and that's just less than 20% of it spoiled (don't forget the other lovely stories and art!)). I can't ponder on this in my current sleep addled state. I'll update when my thoughts are clearer for the gloomy weather beckons a round of Dead Space 3 :D.
